Cookie policy
Which cookies this website uses, why, and how to change your choice.
What this page covers
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. This page explains which ones opensmart.co.uk uses, why, and how to change your mind. For how I handle personal data more generally, see the privacy policy.
Your choice
When you first visit, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Accepting and declining are equally easy, and the site works the same either way. Your answer is remembered on your device for up to 180 days. Change your cookie choice at any time.
Cookies that are always on
These keep the site working and secure. They do not track you across other websites and they do not need consent.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| os-consent | This website | Remembers your cookie choice | 180 days |
| wordpress_test_cookie and similar | WordPress | Checks that your browser accepts cookies, and keeps staff logged in to the admin area | Session |
| comment_author cookies | WordPress | Only if comments are switched on and you leave one, so your details can be remembered | Up to 1 year |
Analytics cookies, only if you accept
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Google Analytics | Tells one visitor from another so visits can be counted | 2 years |
| _ga_ followed by an ID | Google Analytics | Keeps track of a visit across pages | 2 years |
If you decline, these cookies are not set. Google's tag is configured with Consent Mode, which means it may still receive a basic, cookie-free signal that a page was loaded, without identifying you.
What I do not use
This website does not use advertising cookies, and it does not run social media tracking pixels. Embedded videos or maps, if added later, will be listed here first.
Controlling cookies in your browser
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Doing so may log you out of places that need a login, but the public pages will still work. Guidance is available at aboutcookies.org.
