What is included

Everything below is part of the price. None of it is an upsell later.

  • Fast SSD hosting on an autoscaling platform, not a single shared box where one busy site slows everyone else down
  • Free SSL certificate, renewed automatically, so the padlock never lapses
  • Daily off site backups, kept away from the server they came from
  • Web application firewall and daily malware scanning
  • Generous mailboxes held on separate infrastructure from your website
  • Free migration from wherever you are now

Why email being separate matters

On cheap hosting your website and your email usually live on the same server. When the website gets busy, or gets attacked, or somebody uploads a huge file, your email slows down or stops with it.

Here they are on different infrastructure. A problem with one does not touch the other. It is the sort of thing nobody thinks about until the week it matters.

How this differs from the managed tier

Same platform, same speed, same security. The difference is whose job the maintenance is.

On this tier, updating WordPress, your theme and your plugins is yours. On managed hosting at £59.95 a month I do it, test it on a staging copy first, and watch the site so I notice a problem before you do.

If your website is a brochure nobody depends on, this tier is the honest answer. If it brings in enquiries or takes money, an afternoon offline costs more than the difference.

Moving from another host is free, and I do it

The reason people stay on hosting they dislike is not price, it is the fear of a broken week during the move. So I do the move, at no charge, and you approve it before anything switches.

Your site is copied across and tested on the new platform while the old one keeps running. When it looks right the DNS changes, with no downtime you would notice. Email comes across too, mailboxes and history intact.

If something is wrong afterwards I fix it, and the old site stays put until you are happy.

Not on WordPress? It runs that too

Most things a small business site is built with. Static HTML sites, PHP applications, Joomla, Drupal, Laravel, and the various site builders that export real files.

  • Modern PHP versions, switchable per site
  • MySQL databases with proper management tools
  • SSH and SFTP access if you want it
  • Scheduled tasks for anything that needs to run on a timer
  • Free SSL certificate on every site
  • Daily off site backups and a web application firewall

If you are on WordPress, the WordPress tier is tuned for it and is the better choice.

Why UK hosting is worth asking about

Two practical reasons, neither of them patriotism.

Speed. If your customers are in Cambridgeshire and your server is in Arizona, every visitor pays for that distance on every page.

Data. Hosting in the UK keeps a simple answer to the question of where your data lives, which matters when a client, an insurer or your own privacy policy asks. The data centres are ISO 27001 accredited.

Questions people ask

Is there a contract?

No. Monthly, cancel whenever, and if you leave I will help you move out.

How long does moving take?

Usually a couple of days from agreeing to it, most of which is waiting for DNS rather than working.

Can I host more than one site?

Yes. Talk to me about how many and I will tell you what it costs.

What if I need help with the site itself?

Hosting covers the platform. Work on the site is charged at the usual rate, or handled under managed hosting if it is maintenance.

Will my site definitely work on it?

Tell me what it is built with and I will tell you straight. If it needs something the platform does not do, I would rather say so than move you and discover it afterwards.

Can I have email on the same account?

Yes, and it sits on separate infrastructure from the website. See business email.

What about a domain?

I can register it or move an existing one. See domain names.
